Jon Stenning, who is directing Cambridge Econometrics’ work for ENABLE.EU, gave a presentation on “The macro-level and sectoral impacts of Energy Efficiency policies” at a three-day workshop organised by the International Energy Agency in Paris on March 5-7, 2018. The presentation, in which ENABLE.EU was mentioned as one of the projects the institution is working on, drew on previous research that Cambridge Econometrics has carried out related to the economic and other benefits of energy efficiency (for the European Commission). Their analysis found that energy efficiency is better for the European economy, though the sectoral impacts are uneven, with some sectors benefitting more than others. In addition, the impact on public budgets varies between countries, according to the level of investment and the number of additional jobs. The report also sets out a number of other benefits of energy efficiency, including on health and unemployment rates.
